So good morning Wild Oaters! If you read yesterday, then you know that several of my friends and I just embarked on the AdvoCare cleanse. Yesterday, I recorded a day in food to show you just how awesome I am-I mean how awesome the program is.

So there you have it! I also had the fiber drink in the morning and about 20 grapes. Why do I always have to be so specific with you?

So, send me some pictures of what you've been eating this week. Unless its cupcakes and reese's blasts-that would just be mean

Sowing my wild oats: When I tragically find out that I am not Martha Stewart

Top of the morning to ya fellow wild sowers. This week started out as hopeful as these cherries themselves. I mean even George Washington picked them. But alas my wild grandiose ideas came to a crashing halt when I tried to make the chicken tortilla soup you see below. As you can tell, I was excited even taking pictures of all of those veggies! It had avocado, organic chicken, corn, black beans, garlic, onion, chicken broth, green peppers and lime. Sound good no? Ding ding ding, you are the winner! My family hated it and I wasn't too fond either but I froze it -something I've done for the first time ever. Hopefully, the freezer gods touch it with magic and it tastes better heated up.

Then as you can see next, I was so starving after a very long run, that I had to go in Starbucks and get oatmeal and coffee. It took a lot of convincing let me tell you.Perfect oatmeal is ......well.....perfect.

So as you can see it was take 2 with the crock pot craziness. I made a pot roast with fresh carrots, beef broth, onion, garlic and french onion mix. I had  to cook it on high before dinner so it was  pretty much a fail too. But, I did steal a bite last night and after cooking on low for four extra hours, it was delicious and melted in your mouth.

My plan is to make it into Shepard's pie tonight to which the husband said, "what is that?" I  mean come on, haven't we lived in the Mid-west for the past 7 years???

So how has your week of food planning going? What do you do when you have big  plans, work hard and its and epic fail?

Sowing My Wild Oats: Doing what you can with what you havetThe other night, I was invited to a murder mystery party-that I will write about later. I found out that we were supposed to bring a treat or side dish to the party. Not sure what to do, I figured I would pick up last minute junk from the store like chips or dip …or triple stuffed chocolate chips cookies. I remembered I had a cilantro plant from Hannah and some yummy veggies vfrom Amanda

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } Thow it all together fresh fromt the garden, Shhhh, dont tell it that its going to be chopped up

Instead. after running with my friend Amanda, she dropped off a bounty of tomatoes, purple onion, cucumber, purple bell peppers and green bellpeppers. I wasnt sure what to do but I knew I could come up with something delcicious. I chopped up all of the ingredients then took several buds from mu cilantro plant my friend Hannah got me for my birthday. I added in black beans and sea aalt.

I must say it was a hit and I will def make it again. Don’t drool too much It’s not lady like.

Thow it all together fresh fromt the garden,

Winners of the Whole Foods Giveaway!

I know you are all sitting on pens and needles waiting to hear the results of who we voted for to win the big $15 Whole Foods Giveaway. And if not, what else have you been doing? Going on vacations, getting pedicures, romantic get-ways. Oh please. Brag much?

But, we figured we better post all of the yummy, mood boosting foods that were submitted.

I know for my friends and I, we sometimes email each other a recipe and forward to about 20 people. It's a great way to get creative and get new things cooking.

So, without further ado, here are the recipes submitted. Abby, at www.mckinney6.blogspot.com, she submitted mouth watering pancakes that are healthy!

Banana Almond Pancakes
Simply, healthy, delicious!

2 bananas
1 egg
1-2 Tbs almond butter
fresh blueberries
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped

Instructions

Mash bananas in a bowl.
Add the egg and almond butter, and whisk until well blended.
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Pour small discs of batter onto the hot pan.
Add blueberries and walnuts as the pancakes cook on one side. Flip when batter loses its “tackiness” around the edges.

Cook other side slowly over medium heat until fully cooked. (We line the pan with coconut oil before cooking.)

My good friend Amanda that you  may have seen me running with recently, submitted her favorite salad.

 Favorite salad

1 serving of favorite greens.  (I prefer organic baby spinach)
1 apple, sliced thin.  (I prefer organic Gala)
2 tablespoons diced red onion
1 serving of your favorite nut or seed.  (I alternate between sunflower seeds, cashew clusters, and plain cashews depending on what I have on hand).
1 serving feta cheese
2 tablespoons of Ken’s Raspberry Walnut dressing

That’s it.  Simple and delicious.  I have also tried it with blueberries, strawberries, grapes, or a combo.  I still prefer apple, but I’m pretty plain Jane.

A good friend of mine and writing partner, Hannah at www.hannahellice.com submitted a yummy seasonal salad. I am begging you to eat this!

Throw it all together salad

 1 MANGO
1 AVOCADO
1 medium TOMATO (I used yellow because the red ones burn my mouth)
About a 1/4 of a RED ONION
A healthy dose of CILANTRO
1 cup of rinsed/drained BLACK BEANS
2 tablespoons fresh LIME JUICE
1 tablespoon RAW SUGAR
Pinch of CAYENNE PEPPER

Chop everything up and voila! Tasty tasty salsa! I ate about two cups of it on baked tortilla chips the other night. My husband and I loved it so much that we made it the NEXT NIGHT to top grilled chicken and whole wheat cous cous. It’s my new favorite way to eat some wonderful summer produce!

A reader, Meagan decided that sweets make every woman feel better and submitted the following recipe.

Okay, this is totally unhealthy, but it definitely boosts my mood!

Salty PB Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 C. ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR
1 TSP. BAKING SODA
1/2 C. UNSALTED BUTTER, MELTED
1/2 C. CRUNCHY SALTED PEANUT BUTTER
1/4 C. GRANULATED SUGAR
1/2 C. LIGHT BROWN SUGAR
1 TSP. VANILLA EXTRACT
1 EGG
1/2 C. ROLLED OATS
1 C. BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE CHIPS
FLAKED SEA SALT

 Soooo good!

Healthy mood boosters: Banana Soft-serve! (A frozen banana blended in a food processor

My friend and running partner, Summer submitted the following.

Greek yogurt “ice cream”
1 6oz plain greek yogurt
1 cup frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries)
1/2 tsp cinnamon (my favorite spice)
1 T. Truvia
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Blend in blender until smooth.  Same consistnecy as frozen yogurt, and super fast!

She also submitted pumpkin whoopie pies which if you knew Summer, you would laugh. She is obsessed with all things pumpkin and I am  pretty sure buys stocks in Libby pumpkin in a  can.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies (with Fall just around the corner, these are a winner)

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pumpkin-Whoopie-Pies/Detail.aspx

So, who's the winner? I know you are dying to know and I will let you know...............right after this commercial break. Just gettng...its not the Bachelor...not yet anyway.

We voted as a collective, and voted for Hannah's throw it together salad and Megan's mood boosting cookies.  We are all about balance around here and we feel this exhibits it perfectly. Please email us at freeingsisyphus@allpointswhole.com or embracingscars@allpointswhole.com  to retrieve your gift certificate.

Congrats Foodies!! Stay tuned for an AdvoCare givewaway soon!

Sowing My Wild Oats: The letter of the day is B!

Just a quick post to let you all know that I found a new love-its green, round and tastes like cabbage! If you didn't guess brussels sprouts, then I don't even want to know what you were thinking!

Seriously though, paired with last night's dinner and I am still satisfied two hours later. Complex carbs + greens + protein = complete meal

I went out for a bike ride on Speedy Mcspeeders tonight with Christy. It's the only activity I've done this week and sadly all I will do. We did 4.11 and i felt like I could've gone on for miles. However, I am still healing from an IT injury after my 1/2 marathon in May. I am crossing my fingers that next week I will be back at running and training for my upcoming full marathon and triathlon!

So what did you do today? Is anyone else out there a lover of all things green and round? If so, you know you can't resist! Or how about injuries? Anyone else on a "break?"

Sowing My Wild Oats: Doppleganger on the Loose

This summer, (and winter:) I am absolutely lovin my kale salad creation...so much so that I wanted to share. As you know, I am also addicted to Kombucha and love to wash my lunch down with one of these...makes me feel like I am drinking a cocktail but instead its a healthy tonic:)

Ingredients for the salad are: Organic kale, organic vine tomato, feta, cranberries, walnuts, sweet red peppers, roasted garlic, shredded purple cabbage and red onion. I top it off with Annie's Woodstock dressing..

Have you tried kale? I've found its healthier, more filling and cheaper than spinach leaves or regular salad mix.

What's your favorite salad creation?
